1 in 5 children in NC face hunger.

Processed foods that are high in fats, sugars, and salt are often cheaper and easier to find than fresh fruits and vegetables. While they can give you enough calories, they don’t provide the nutrients your body needs to stay healthy and work properly.

Good food is the essence of good health and well-being. Everyone deserves access to healthy, good-tasting, and affordable food. At the same time, the farmers that produce our food are struggling to make a sustainable living. That’s why we launched The Food Equity Collaborative.

Food insecurity affects over 1.2 million North Carolinians, with disparities based on race, ethnicity, and age, and addressing this issue requires both policy action and community support through food banks and assistance programs.

  • Not Just Calories

Food insecurity is not just about calories. It's also about having access to safe and nutritious food, and the ability to maintain a healthy diet.

  • It's About the System

To effectively combat food insecurity, we must engage a range of systems, including farmers, consumers, producers, and even policymakers, to create sustainable solutions that ensure access to nutritious food for all.

  • Long Term Impacts

Food insecurity has long-term effects, impacting health, education, and overall opportunities, especially for children and vulnerable communities.
